Handmade Earrings- Nature Inspired.

This is a one-of-a-kind set, from my hand-glazed willow leaf series. Each earring is individually crafted, by me; the ceramic glazes create a unique, non-reproducible look.
The glazing is painterly, producing special color variations in the in each piece. 
It's fun to open the kiln... new work = discovery and blends!

The metal elements are gold fill or gold-plated findings and wires I create with
One of a Kind. Handcrafted fine porcelain. Inc. 22 Karat gold hand painted glaze (two glaze firings)

STORY, ABOUT THE WORK and MY PROCESS:

These willow leaves arise from my lifelong love of trees- willows especially: I was lucky to plant them with children during creek restoration projects many times, and loved to hide under one as a child. 

The supple limbs of willow are used for basket making. The willow has a wondrous ability to root and regrow from a simple shoot in the ground. It is the first source for aspirin.

Native American Traditions revere the Willow Tree as a symbol of strength and stability in old age and experience, as well as a symbol of deep inner knowledge and open-mindedness.

The willow tree in the Bible has multiple meanings, including celebration, worship and rebirth

The graceful weeping willow is often referred to in literature.

ABALONE! To me, it is simply magical. I've lived and loved the pacific coast where abalone is found. It is revered in many cultures.

PORCELAIN is a high or mid-range fired natural clay made of superfine particles. It becomes translucent and glass-like. (Firings go over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit) It is not an easy material to work with, but I love the results!
